Story for kids

The Cloud Who Wanted to Be Heavy

Once upon a time, high above the tallest mountains and deepest oceans, there lived a little cloud named Nimbo. Nimbo was small, puffy, and light as a feather. While the other clouds rumbled with thunder and carried heavy rain, Nimbo just floated around gently, too light to even make a drizzle.

He wanted to be useful like the big storm clouds who watered forests and filled rivers. So one day, Nimbo said,

"I want to be a heavy cloud, too! I want to pour rain and make a difference!"

The Wind, who had seen many things, warned him gently,

"You are special as you are, Nimbo. Sometimes, lightness has its own purpose."

But Nimbo was determined. So he started collecting all the water vapour he could find. He soaked up every tiny drop, growing bigger and darker. Eventually, he was heavy enough to make rain.

Excited, Nimbo released his first shower…

But he didn’t realize he was floating over a desert village that hadn’t seen rain in years.

At first, the villagers rejoined, dancing in the cool droplets. But Nimbo, eager to be helpful, kept pouring and pouring. Soon, the dry ground couldn’t soak it up fast enough. Mudslides formed, homes were flooded, and animals ran for shelter.

Nimbo was horrified. He hadn’t meant to cause harm.

The Wind whispered again,

"It's not how much you hold, but how wisely you give."

Nimbo drifted away in silence, feeling ashamed. But then he noticed a little garden far away—wilting, but still alive. This time, he carefully let down a soft, gentle rain. Just enough.

Day by day, Nimbo learned when and where to rain. Not too much. Not too little. Just right.

Soon, all across the land, people began to recognize the little cloud who always arrived just when he was needed.

Moral of the Story:

"Being helpful isn't about being big or powerful—it's about being thoughtful and kind in the right way at the right time."
