 Cloudburst, Landslide Kill Seven in Kathua, Jammu&Kashmir; Rescue Ops On

Kathua, J&K – A cloudburst and a landslide claimed at least seven lives and injured five others in Kathua district early on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

According to officials, five people died in Jodh Ghati due to the cloudburst, which also damaged homes and cut off road access. In a separate incident, two people were killed in a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in the Jungle area.

Rescue operations are underway, with the Army using helicopters to reach affected regions. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced ex-gratia compensation of ₹2 lakh for families of the deceased, ₹1 lakh for those seriously injured, and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries. Additional support is being provided by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
