Flood in Pakistan
The death toll from recent monsoon-triggered floods and landslides in Pakistan and the region of Pakistan-administered Kashmir has risen to 307. The northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been particularly hard-hit.
In addition to widespread destruction, 74 residential structures have been reported as damaged. Rescue efforts suffered a tragic setback when a helicopter involved in relief operations crashed, resulting in the deaths of five crew members.
Authorities also confirmed fatalities in other northern regions: nine in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and five in Gilgit-Baltistan. Weather officials predict persistent rainfall through August 21, prompting several districts to be labeled as disaster zones.
