 India Welcomes Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla Home After ISS Mission

India celebrated the return of astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla early Sunday morning (August 17), following his successful journey aboard the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station. After training in the U.S. for over a year, Mr. Shukla launched into space on June 25 and spent time aboard the ISS before landing back on Earth on July 15.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, and ISRO chief V. Narayanan welcomed him at the airport. Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair, his backup astronaut, was also part of the return group.

Mr. Shukla is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visit his hometown of Lucknow before returning to New Delhi for National Space Day celebrations on August 22–23.
